Malta Malayalees created history in European football!!

Malta: Malta football club Edex Kings FC, formed by Malayalee group, is the first Indian team to play in a tournament recognized by the European Football Federation. The club is coached by UEFA Pro license holder William Gannett, who played in Spain's second division tournament, the Segunda Division, and later coached professional clubs in the first and second divisions in England, Wales, Spain and Malta.


Edex Kings FC is a club under Edex Sports, a leading organization in Kerala. Edex Kings FC is the first Indian club to play in the Malta Football Association-sanctioned Mafa League. Expatriates are the stars on the field today in Malta, where students and officials played sevens under King's Kerala Arts and Sports Association. The association started in 2016 under the leadership of Vibin and Umesh later turned into a club. The club represents the city of Malta Attard in the league where the leading clubs in Malta participate. The league started in October this year and will continue till June next year. The club is also participating in the All Europe Sevens Football Tournament under the European Kerala Football Federation which will be held next Sunday.


In the first two matches of the Mafa Football League held yesterday, Kings were able to draw with Gzira United (3-3) and Fgura Spartans (1-1). In the third match of the league held last Saturday, Buggiba Club De Swat was defeated by one goal and the club is now in first place in the league. Rajpal Singh scored the goal in the 19th minute of the game. The win helped the Kings leapfrog the same rivals to top spot with five points.


The current captain of the team is Shamsir Muhammad from Kozhikode. 19 of the 32 member team are Malayalis. Apart from Shamseer, Dhanyan Shashi, Christo Thomas, Shibu Varghese, Alan Joy, Daniel Elias, Abhijit Gopi, Manu Manikantan, Akshay Antony from Ernakulam, Mohammad Sharil, Shuhaib Pangadan, Jamsheed Kunnanchirakal from Malappuram, Vijo Jose, Allvyn Varghese, Jesto Johnson from Thrissur, Gautam Priyan, a native of Kannur, Nihal Muhammad, a native of Wayanad, Sanjay Sambashivan, a native of Alappuzha,Krishin Babu, a native of Idukki, arethe Malayalee in the team.


President Vibin Xavier and General Secretary Siyad Saidh are the leaders of the club who are natives of Ernakulam. Both of them have the opinion that Malayalees should use this kind of opportunity to keep up with European power football. Ernakulam natives Umesh Kumar (Director), Rony Paul (Vice President), Rishal Simon (Deputy Secretary), Rincil Raj (Kit Manager and Media Head), Thrissur natives Tony Louis (Manager), Tomson Maliekal (Treasurer), Vimal Jose (Executive),Kottayam native Arun Ravi (Team Coordinator) and Alappuzha native Avinash Dileep (Deputy Director) are the club executives.


Kings are not behind not only in football but also in cricket. The club plays in the Malta Cricket Premier League as Edex Knights. Last season's Malta Premier League runners-up are Edex Knights. Club Deputy Director Avinash Dileep is the captain of the cricket team.Edex Knights CC is one of the few clubs that have qualified to play in the European Cricket League. Moreover, four players from the club are currently representing the Malta National Team. Eldhos Mathew, Samuel Saneesh, Basil George and Justin Shaju are the Edex Knights players playing in the Malta Cricket Team.
